Brink of the Lower Falls

There’s always a struggle of what to do with your dreams. Do you give them up? Do you follow them? Why is it so easy to tell someone else to follow their dreams, yet so hard to follow our own. That’s the essence of this song

  • Jackson Griffith
lead vocals, acoustic guitar, background vocals, ukulele

    Sean Williams
background vocals, bass guitar, drums/percusssion, synth

  • You take your dreams and you bottle them up
    Shove a cork on tight
You think reality has filled up your life
And the night’s for sleep and not your dreams

You take the bottle down to the lower falls
And let it float in the stream
When I go to the Brink of the Lower falls
It’s where I find your dreams
It’s where I find your dreams

You take your love and you package it up
    Tie a bow on tight
You think it’s gonna be different this time
And the light won’t burn out in three weeks

You take the package down to the lower falls
And throw it right with your dreams
But when I go to the Brink of the Lower falls
I put my feet in the stream
‘Cause it’s where I find your dreams

    The glass it breaks
    It shatters on the rocks
    The river flows
As the falls flow around you
    You will see
    You will see
You’re not the only one who doubts you

I take my dreams and I bottle them up
    Shove a cork on tight
I think reality has filled up my life
But my night’s not for sleep; I’m wide awake

I take the bottle down to the lower falls
And throw it right with your dreams
But when you go to the Brink of the Lower falls
It’s where you’ll find my dreams
It’s where you’ll find my dreams
It’s where you’ll find my dreams
It’s where you’ll find my dreams

More For You

This song came out of the carefree nature of high-school romance, and the desire to just slow down and “take your time”. This was the second song I wrote when I first started songwriting in 2015.

  • Jackson Griffith
lead vocals, acoustic guitar, background vocals, ukulele, melodica

    Sean Williams
background vocals, bass guitar, drums/percusssion, synth, lead acoustic guitar, electric guitar

  • I wish I was more for you
    I’m not that clever
    You’re what I dreamed of
    But so much better
    In this heart I have
    There’s only room for you
    Honey please don’t worry
The only one I want is you

Please don’t change a thing about you
    You’re lovely how you are
    And I’m less without you
    The distance that separates us
    Has only brought us closer
    Your absence has only made
My heart grow more and more for you It’s true

And I won’t take this for granted
And I know that you could leave

    So darlin’
    Take your time
    And I will take mine
‘cause there ain’t no rush don’t you see?
    Don’t you see?

    I don’t deserve you
    But I’m glad you’re here
    You’re so very special
    And I hold you dear
    All this time we’ve had
    Is something I will treasure
Nothing’s ever better than spending time
    Time with you

    So what do you say
    We stick together?
    Through sunshine and rainfall
    Unpleasant weather
    We’re both imperfect people
    We both have our flaws
    There’s not a person that
I want to be with more than you
    It’s true

And I won’t take this for granted
And I know that you could leave

    So darlin’
    Take your time
    And I will take mine
‘cause there ain’t no rush don’t you see?
    Don’t you see?

    Take your time
    Take your time darlin’
Take your time, there ain’t no rush
    Take your time
    Take your time oh darlin’
Take your time, there ain’t no rush

And I won’t take this for granted
And I know that you will leave

    So darlin’
    Take your time
And I will take mine, darlin’
    Take your time
And I will take mine, oh darlin’
    Take your time
    And I will take mine
‘cause there ain’t no rush don’t you see?
    Don’t you see?

5:07 at the Pier (Seagull Song)

There’s a certain feeling that arises when you see someone that you are involved with, spending time with someone else. This song wasn’t based on any single moment in time, but rather a fictional story that captures these feelings.

  • Jackson Griffith
lead vocals, acoustic guitar, ukulele, melodica

    Sean Williams
background vocals, bass, drums/percusssion, lead acoustic guitar

    Sam Dowling
    djembe

  • You said you’d meet me at the pier
Seven past five, be on time
I sit here and watch the seagulls play
    My food gets cold
There’s no sign of you or your empty promises

Later I walk the busy streets
The taxis roar, it sounds like storms
I look up and peer at Cherry St.
    You’re standing there
    You’re not alone

‘This isn’t what it looks like’
    That’s what they always say
Maybe we should save some time
    And go our separate ways
I already know how this story ends
    I won’t ask where you’ve been

Thursday I’m playing at the Pier
I sang our song; a crowd stops by
The moment right before the bridge
    You caught my gaze
    I lost my lines

‘This isn’t what it looks like’
That’s what you said to me
    You’re the one I’ve wanted
    Why don’t you just believe?
And I haven’t read this story yet
    Tell me how it ends

The Garden

First loves tend to be lopsided. Usually we are too young and naive to realize it and when we do, it is usually after it’s over. This song is a snapshot of someone in the middle of a lopsided relationship that hasn’t quite fallen apart yet, but isn’t particularly secure. I arranged the strings for this song, which is something I haven’t done before. I was really happy with how they turned out, I feel like they give the song a more cinematic feeling

  • Jackson Griffith
lead vocals, acoustic guitar, background vocals,

    Sean Williams
    bass, shaker

    Sam Dowling
    drums / percussion

    Peyton Magalhaes
    cello

    Caitlyn Dillard
    violin

  • (And) The days couldn't get any longer
And he waits for the spring and the flowers
He hopes and he prays that maybe she'll stand beside him
And God only knows that he won't go on without her

    He said
    ‘Don't forget about me
Don't forget about all the good times
And I won't forget about you
I'll remember you for a lifetime’

(And) The days couldn't get any harder
And she stays and helps out with the gardener
She waits for the day that she can be with someone
And she doesn't know that he won't go on without her

    She said
    ‘Don't forget about me
Don't forget about all the good times
And I won't forget about you
I'll remember you for a lifetime’

And He doesn't know if she even wants him
But he looks for ways to show her love
When spring finally came, they both met in the garden
They locked their eyes and walked on and on for hours

    Saying
    ‘Don't forget about me
Don't forget about all the good times
And I won't forget about you
I'll remember you for a lifetime’

    ‘Don't forget about me
Don't forget about all the good times
And I won't forget about you
I'll remember you for a lifetime
I’ll remember you for a lifetime
I’ll remember you for a lifetime’

Mary

When you have your heart broken for the first time, sometimes it can be delayed. When you’re young, people aren’t always straightforward, and you are probably ignorant. This song is about the constant questioning, bargaining, and finally acceptance of the fact that the person pulling away, was probably a sign it wasn’t meant to be.

  • Jackson Griffith
    vocals, acoustic guitar

    Sean Williams
    studio wizardry

    Peyton Magalhaes
    violin

  • Mary, what are you doing to me?
I say I love you deeply
    But you don’t believe me
Mary, why are you thinking these things?
Do you feel I’m on a mission based on first impressions?

    Oh but you don’t see
    I give you honesty
    And I can’t think
    This confusion has consumed me

What do you say we just in this little game?
    We could be open books
You don’t have to ask to see what’s inside
And all this time that I’ve been
    Away from your sight
Mary you are always on my mind

Mary, what did you want from me
    Do you like someone transpicuous
Or do you like a mystery?
Mary, why weren’t you clear to me?
It seems I’m on the first page
    And you closed the chapter

    Oh but I can’t see
The signs you try to show me
    And I can’t speak
All this fear it mutes me

What do you say we just in this little game?
    We could be open books
You don’t have to ask to see what’s inside
And all this time that I’ve been
    Away from your sight
Mary you are always on my mind

But all that time that I was your best friend
It don’t matter in the end
    But all that time that
I was your best friend It don’t matter in the end

What do you say we just in this little game?
We could just close the books
You don’t have to bear to see what’s inside
And all this time that I’ve been
    Away from your sight
Mary you are never on my mind
Mary you are never on my mind

Yes it’s true, you have left my mind
